Fox wins West Virginia Senior Amateur
CHARLES TOWN, WV (Sept. 18, 2011) -- Steve Fox adds another West Virginia State Championship to his list, as he picked up his third West Virginia Senior Amateur title at Sleepy Hollow Golf Club in Hurricane. Fox defeated Cross Lanes’ Tom Spriggs in the final match, 3 and 2. He has previously won the WV Senior Amateur in 2005 and 2006. South Charleston’s Jim Bartsch won the Silver Championship division, defeating Mineral Wells’ Jim Mason, 5 and 4. Morgantown’s Mike Marrara won the Senior Consolation flight, defeating Scott Depot’s Garry Crede, 2 and 1. In the final Gold First Flight match, Shady Springs’ Spot Leach won the title, taking out Huntington’s Jack Allen, 4 and 2. Pictured left, Fox with WVGA Championship Chairman, Dave Pope.

Entries are open to male amateur golfers with an
active GHIN Handicap index through a WVGA
Member
Club, and who are 50 years of age or older by the
first
round of Championship. The tournament will be 36
holes of stroke play qualifying followed by match
play.
Thirty-two players will advance in the Senior
Division,
16 players will advance in the Silver Division, and 8
players will advance in the Gold Division.
