amateurgolf.com Match Play at Roddy Ranch
Antioch, CA (Sept 18, 2005) -- summary by Pete Wlodkowski
amateurgolf.com conducted our first match play event, the amateurgolf.com Match Play Championship, with two flights of 16 players competiting head-to-head at the fantastic Roddy Ranch Golf Course. (if you haven't played it, you should make a tee time soon).
Both the semi-finals and finals were played on Sunday, September 18th, with am and pm matches determing the inaugural year's champions. For many contestants, it was their first crack at the unique match play format that used to be a staple of amateur golf competition.
It was hard to chose who to pull for in the final, as Elliott Wainwright (my fellow Olympic Club member) defeated Joe Johnson (my neighbor in Carlsbad) by a margin of 4-and-3. Michael Lucas won the Net Division final, defeating Cameron Farah, 1-up.

Thanks to everyone for playing, and to Roddy Ranch for being a great host! Special thanks to sponsor UST Golf Shafts for providing their new Proforce V2 to qualifiers.
