West Virginia Mid-Am: Odell wins
SNOWSHOE, West Virg. (Aug. 14, 2011) -- Hurricane’s Sam O’Dell has won his first West Virginia Mid-Amateur Championship today at the Raven Golf Club at Snowshoe Mountain. O’Dell went on to the final match to defeat five-time Champion, Huntington’s Pat Carter in 19 holes.
As one of the best days West Virginia golf has seen in a while, Carter and O’Dell birdied every hole but one on the front nine holes during their final match, with O’Dell shooting 31 on his own ball. Earlier today, O’Dell defeated Mullens’ Derek Brooks, 4 and 3, in the Semifinals. This is O’Dell’s first State Championship since winning the WV Junior Amateur in 1996 at Tygart Lake Golf Course.
