Shufflebotham wins the 2011 Welsh Men's Amateur
ABERDOVEY, WALES (July 31, 2011) -- Rising senior Jason Shufflebotham has won the 2011 Welsh Men's Amateur Golf Championship, which was held here at the Aberdovey Golf Club. Shufflebotham defeated Rhys Pugh, a 2011 Walker Cup selection, by one hole in the 36 hole final on Saturday.
"This is a terrific accomplishment for Jason," UAB head coach Alan Kaufman said. "He is coming off a great season and winning this event will no doubt give him a lot of confidence. I think he is going to have an excellent senior season."
Shufflebotham, who was an No. 8 seed, reached finals of the championship when he defeated countryman Lee Jones 3-and-2 in the semifinals. Pughs was the number two seed and is considered one of the top golfers in Wales.
