Porter Cup: Haley maintains lead
LEWISTON, N.Y. (July 28, 2011) -- Paul Haley retained his lead at the Porter Cup Thursday, shooting a 4-under 66 at Niagara Falls Country Club.

Haley (10 under) leads incoming Stanford freshman Patrick Rodgers by one shot. Rodgers, of Avon, Ind., had the round of the day, a flawless 63 that included seven birdies and zero bogeys. Rodgers also finished runner-up at The Players Amateur and the Terra Cotta Invitational and third at the Azalea Invitational and Jones Cup this year.

Haley, a recent Georgia Tech graduate from Dallas, opened with a pair of birdies and followed with 12 pars. Haley added birdies at Nos. 15 and 16 and closed with two pars for front and back nines of 33.Scores

Haley, 23, won the ACC Championship this year and tied for 20th at the NCAA Championship.

Nate McCoy of West Des Moines, Iowa, shot 66 and sits in solo third at 7 under. McCoy, a rising senior at Iowa State, led the Cyclones in stroke average in 2010-11.

John Peterson, the NCAA champion from LSU and runner-up at last week’s Nationwide Tour event, is T-8 at 4 under. Harris English, a recent Georgia graduate who won that Nationwide stop one week after having won the Southern Amateur, sits T-35 at even par.

Defending champion David Chung’s summer struggles continued, as a pair of 72s leave him in a tie for 65th at 4 over.
