COLUMBUS, OH. (July 20, 2011) –Scores in the second round of the SOS Jack Hesler Tournament Wednesday were as hot as the steam-bath weather at the Brookside Golf and Country Club in Columbus, Ohio. With the temperature reaching into the high 90s, the Hesler leaderboard looked pretty much the same as it did after Round 1.
In the Senior Division, Alan Fadel of Toledo, Ohio, shot a second-round, one-under-par 71 for a 36-hole score of 137 and a one-shot lead over John Armstrong, an SOS rookie from Frostburg, Md. Fadel had an eagle in his round, while Armstrong had six birdies. In the Super Seniors, diminutive Don Wood, the wily magician with the 50-plus inch putter, played an almost flawless round -- four birdies, 14 pars -- for a four-under par 68, a 36-hole total of 137 and a six-shot lead over his Louisville, Ky., neighbor Allan Fugate. Wood, remember, had eight birdies on his card in the opening round en route to his three-under par 69.
In the Grand Masters, Bob Hughett of Green Valley, Az., shot a two-under par 70 to pull even atop the leaderboard with Bill Stallings of McLean, Va.
The Hesler concludes Thursday morning with a Shotgun Start at 8:30.
