Peter Uihlein: 2009 National Player-of-the-Year
After a breakout year, Peter Uihlein of Orlando, FL is the amateurgolf.com National Player-of-the-Year for 2009.
Uihlein's quarterfinal finish in the 2009 U.S. Amateur capped off a great year of golf that included wins at the
Dixie Amateur and the
New Year's Invitational, a runner-up in the NCAA South Central Regional, a fourth place finish at the Porter Cup and a sixth place finish at the Southern Amateur.
Uihlein also had top-20 finishes in the North & South Amateur (Final 16), the Sunnehanna Amateur (T12) the Northeast Amateur (T13), and the NCAA Championships, as well as several other impressive finishes in national amateur tournaments.
Uihlein was selected to the U.S. Walker Cup team, where he
posted a perfect 4-0 record and registered the winning point in the USA’s third consecutive victory (16½-9½) over Great Britain and Ireland.
Uihlein finished 2009 as the #2 ranked player in the Golfweek / amateurgolf.com World Player Rankings, behind British Amateur champion Matteo Manassero of Italy.
