Miller leads AGC Tour Championship
STEVINSON, Calif. (Dec. 19, 2009) -- Mat Miller of Pleasanton fired a 4-under 68 at Stevinson Ranch today, to take the first round lead in the inaugural amateurgolf.com Tour Championship. Miller, 20, is chased by a host of young college players, including reigning NCGA Amateur champ George Gandranata and Grant Norton, who both shot 69 and will be paired with him in the final round.
But look out for experience over youth, as Darryl Donovan of Gilroy is 2-shots back after a solid 70. Donovan is a spry 49-year-old who made the cut in the windy 1992 US Open at Pebble Beach when many of our leaders were toddlers...
In the Net Division - Korsen Yu of Sunnyvale shot net 4-under 68 for the solo lead - he is chased by Tim Yager (70) and Terry O'Prey (73).
Rob Thompson of Merced ground it out, bad back and all, to shoot even par and pace the Senior Division (Neil Duffy is at 73 and Stevinson Ranch owner George Kelley is at 74, rounding out the final senior pairing)
Sunday's play is a 9:00am shotgun, pairings are available via a link on the results page or main tournament page.
ABOUT THE
amateurgolf.com Tour Championship
For the first time ever, amateurgolf.com will conduct a season-ending Tour Championship! While the tournament is geared towards rewarding our top players, it is an official "NCGA Points" event and therefore open to all players who meet handicap requirements. (Please see notes below.) The host course, Stevinson Ranch, is a fitting venue -- it is after all the "home course of amateurgolf.com".
Criteria for entry are as follows:
* Top 60 players in Scratch, Senior, and Net Divisions through the Christmas Classic
* Players must play in at least two amateurgolf.com events, the Christmas Classic (Dec. 5-6) can be the second event, for those players who have only played once this year
* All tournament winners from the past seven years are also exempt, regardless of points achieved or number of tournaments entered in 2009
* OPEN DIVISION: All non-exempt players based on the above criteria may enter the Open Division and play for NCGA points and prize fund only, not trophies or amateurgolf.com points.
