Devil's Elbow: Andy Schonbaum and Ryan Terry hold first round lead

Andy Schonbaum and Ryan Terry are the co-leaders after the opening round of the Devil’s Elbow Invitational in the Dominican Republic. 

Both players shot 4-under 68 on the Corales Course at Punta Cana. Ryan tallied six birdies and two bogeys; the round was highlighted by three straight birdies on holes No. 14, 15, and 16. Schonbaum also made three birdies in a row on hole Nos. 13-15.

He made another birdie during the round, along with an eagle on the fourth hole. He also dropped two shots during the round.

One shot off the pace is Connor Doyal, who carded four birdies and one bogey on his trip around Corales on a near-perfect day.

Two other players fired under-par rounds - Ricky Stimets and Will Buchanan. They each shot 71. Buchanan had an incredible start to his round with birdies on hole Nos. 4 and 6 before making an eagle on the seventh hole.

He dropped shots on three holes, coming home on the 8th, 15th, and 18th holes. Stimets had a different front nine, making nine pars before making a birdie on the 10th hole. He had his score to 2-under par, but a bogey on the 18th dropped him three shots behind the leaders.

Play will continue on Friday, and the final round will be held on Saturday. The winner of the Devil’s Elbow earns an exemption into the Corales Puntacana Championship in April.

ABOUT THE Devil's Elbow Invitational

Introduced in 2021, this 54-hole invitational stroke play event for mid-amateurs will offer the winner a chance to play in the PGA Tour event held at Punta Cana. The tournament aims to draw an international field and invitations may be requested on the tournament website. Minimum age 25, maximum handicap 3.4.
