Hurricane Invitational: Miami dominates with a 19-stroke victory

The University of Miami women’s golf team extended their winning streak with a decisive victory at the 2024 Hurricane Invitational, capturing their second consecutive title in commanding fashion.
The Hurricanes took charge early and never let up, posting a team score of 12-under 852 across three rounds on the par-72 Biltmore Golf Course in Coral Gables, Florida, ultimately finishing 19 strokes clear of the competition.
Junior Olivia Grønborg led Miami’s charge, claiming her first individual title of the season with a stellar 8-under 208. Her three-round performance was punctuated by 11 birdies and an eagle, cementing her place at the top.
Freshman Sofie Hlinomazová displayed her promise, securing third place at 2-under, while sophomore Rebekah Gardner’s consistent play earned her a share of fourth at 1-under.
Miami’s depth proved crucial, as freshman Cloe Amion Villarino logged her second straight top-10 finish, tying for sixth at even par. Sophomore Barbora Bujáková rounded out the Hurricanes’ scoring lineup, tying for 22nd at 5-over.
The Hurricanes’ lineup depth extended to those playing individually as well—sophomore Aada Rissanen finished T-20 at 4-over, and junior Katie Carman posted a 24-over to finish 58th.
Florida Gulf Coast claimed second place with a 7-over 871, and South Alabama followed closely with an 8-over 872 to complete the top three.
Statistically, Miami’s dominance was evident as they led the field on par-4s and par-5s, averaging scores of 4.0 and 4.72, respectively. The team also set a high mark with 188 pars. Individually, Grønborg excelled on the par-3s, averaging 3.83, while Amion showed remarkable consistency with 42 pars, the highest in the field.
