The Kent State men’s golf team closed their Fall campaign on a high note, securing a long-awaited victory at the Dayton Flyer Invitational. This marked their first team triumph since the 2022 MAC Championship, achieved by a narrow two-stroke margin over Marquette. The Flashes finished the tournament at 15-over-par after posting a 299 in the final round.
A key contributor to the team’s success was senior Jordan Gilkison, whose performance in the final round propelled him to his first collegiate individual title. Gilkison shot an impressive 2-under-par 69, finishing the tournament at 3-under-par overall. Despite an early bogey, he stayed composed, firing four birdies to win by a single stroke.
Freshman Isaiah Ibit continued to turn heads with his consistent play, tying for fifth at 1-over-par. He posted a 67 in the second round, the lowest score of his young college career, and followed it with a 5-over-par 76 in the final round.
Other notable performances came from Bryce Reed and Nolan Haynes whose rounds of 75 and 79 contributed to the team’s score. Reed tied for 21st at 8-over-par, while Haynes, also a freshman, completed his first collegiate season in 61st place.
Competing individually, freshman Ramiro Acevedo made a strong impression with his 72 in the final round, finishing tied for 15th at 6-over-par. His steady performance throughout the tournament featured 15 pars in the final round, highlighting his potential for the future.
With this win, Kent State ends the Fall season on a high note, gaining momentum ahead of their next tournament in the spring.
