In a thrilling finish at the 2024-2025 Cougar Classic, the No. 6 ranked Auburn women’s golf team edged out No. 13 LSU by a single stroke to claim the title in Charleston, SC. Auburn posted a collective 5-under 847, with consistent rounds of 286-278-283, securing the season-opening victory.
Sophomore Anna Davis, a mid-season addition to the team in January, held a 36-hole lead after rounds of 67 and 69. Davis, ranked 28th on the AmateurGolf.com/Golfweek rankings, entered the final round with hopes of capturing both team and individual titles. However, a closing round of 71 left her just short, finishing runner-up at 6-under 207.
Davis is currently ranked No. 23 in the Golfweek/AmateurGolf.com Women's Rankings.
The individual crown went to Maryland junior Nicha Kampai, who stormed up the leaderboard with a final-round 66. The Thai native’s impressive performance brought her from eight spots back to clinch her first collegiate win at 7-under, narrowly beating Davis by a stroke.
LSU finished in second place with a 4-under 848 (286-279-283), while Virginia Tech secured a solo third finish at 7-over, 11 strokes behind the leaders.
