For the third time in four years, Russell Humphrey won the Oregon Senior Amateur, which was played this year at Salishan Spa and Golf Resort in Gleneden Beach, Oregon.

The Oregon Senior Am consists of one qualifying round on Tuesday, then a 32-player match play bracket is set, with the round of 32 and round of 16 on Wednesday and then the quarterfinals and semifinals on Thursday, and a final 18-hole match on Friday.

"If I had to pinpoint where the success comes from, it is about being consistent over the span of the tournament," Humphrey said. "From the qualifier to match play and managing 36 holes in a day for two days can be difficult."

Humphrey added," One of the things I am most proud of is my game has been very consistent."

Humphrey earned the top seed after shooting a 3-under 68 in the stroke play portion, recording six birdies and three bogeys. He won the qualifier by three shots over Mike Calhoun, George Hale, Rick Corkill, and Ryan Welborn, who all finished T2 at even par.

Humphrey defeated Kevin Jordan 2&1 in the round of 32 and defeated Don Bidinger 1-up in the round of 16. In the quarterfinals, he defeated Greg Chianello 6&5 and in the semifinals, he defeated Kevin Hodes 3&1.

In the final match, he took down David Berlant 2&1 to win his third title in four years.

Humphrey was one down to Berlant heading into No. 9, but he made a chip-in birdie to tie the match and put the momentum firmly in his corner. He won Hole Nos. 11, 12, and 14 to secure the win.

The back nine was into the wind, and Humphrey used that to his advantage.

"My game plan was to get the ball on the putting surface, and that's a good strategy because those holes are so demanding," Humphrey said.
