Nevill Ruiter, a senior at the College of Charleston from Bergen, Netherlands, returned to his home country and shot a 13-under 275 to win his national amateur championship.
Ruiter, who trailed compatriot Jack Ingham by four strokes heading into the final round, posted rounds of 70-73-67-65, with his final-round 65 being the tournament’s lowest score.
Ingham led the field at 10-under after 54 holes, but Ruiter’s stellar final round propelled him to victory. Rami Samawi of Switzerland, who carded a flawless 66 in the final round, needed a birdie on the last hole to force a playoff. However, Ruiter’s clutch performance secured him the trophy by a one-shot margin.
Ruiter, named the 2022 CAA Rookie of the Year, recently finished 8th at the Dutch National Stroke Play Championship and reached the Round of 32 at the British Amateur.
In the ladies’ section, Germany's Leone Breutigam claimed victory with a total score of 2-over, carding rounds of 71-73-75-71 to win by three strokes. Fellow German, Mia Lena Hoffman, finished as the runner-up at 5-over.
The tournament featured 177 players from 18 countries, including Switzerland, Türkiye, France, England, Austria, Germany, Belgium, the USA, the UK, Serbia, Morocco, Spain, Finland, Denmark, Wales, the Czech Republic, the Netherlands, and Italy.
