Tiger Christensen, a rising junior at Arizona, defeated Gordon Sargent in the round of 64 of the U.S Amateur 4 and 3 to knock the Vanderbilt star out of the championship, likely his last U.S. Amateur.

Christensen won the first three holes to go 3-up on Sargent, and the 2023 U.S. Open low amateur never got closer than 2-down the entire match. Christensen earned the No. 15 seed through stroke play, and Sargent earned the No. 50 seed

Sargent is currently ranked No. 2 in the Golfweek/AmateurGolf.com World Rankings, shot 1-under in the 36-hole stroke play qualifying.

Sargent will return to Vanderbilt for one last season, but he has earned his PGA Tour card already, so he will turn pro once the spring season is over.

We will have a full recap posted once the round of 64 concludes
