Ethan Korock clinched victory at the Palo Verde Amateur held at the Grand Canyon University Golf Course in Phoenix, AZ, securing the win in an intense playoff against Princeton freshman
Charlie Palmer. After both players finished the tournament tied at 7-under par, Korock sealed the win with a decisive birdie on the first extra hole.
During the playoff on the par-5 18th, Korock found himself hole-high to the right. A precise chip set him up with a mere couple of feet for a crucial birdie. Meanwhile, Palmer's attempt at a 10-foot birdie narrowly missed, clinging to the right edge. With steady nerves, Korock confidently sank the two-footer, securing his title as the Palo Verde Amateur Champion. His victory not only earned him 100 points but also catapulted him into the lead position in the 2024-25 Troon Saguaro Amateur Series Player of the Year points race.
Palmer shot rounds of 68-68 to enter the final round with a three-shot lead at 6-under 136 over Korock, but a final round 4-under 67 from Korock against Palmer’s 1-under 70 led to the playoff.
Korock shot rounds of 69-70-67, while Palmer shot rounds of 68-68-67.
Korock is currently on the NCAA transfer portal. He was recently named Gulf South Conference Men’s Golfer of the Week, marking his third player of the week laurel this season.
Ben Gregg, a Texas Tech freshman carded rounds of 71-69-67 to register a third place finish at 6-under.
