Yuki Moriyama of UNLV uses scorching final nine holes to win Cowboy Classic

After two bogeys on holes No. 11 and 12 saw him give up the lead,
Yuki Moriyama of UNLV recorded birdies on holes No. 13, 14, 15, and 18 and an eagle on No. 16 to run away with the win by five shots at the 2024 Wyoming Cowboy Classic at Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club in Maricopa, Ariz.
Moriyama carded rounds of 66-69-64 to finish 17-under to win by five shots.
His final round 8-under 64 consisted of eight birdies, two bogeys and an eagle. He made the turn at 4-under, made two bogeys, and then finished the last six holes at 6-under to go from one shot down to five shots up.
His 6-under 66 saw him tied for the lead after round one and helped him complete the wire-to-wire win. In his last time out, Moriyama won the All-American Intercollegiate to now win two tournaments in a row. He is currently ranked No. 131 in the Golfweek/AmateurGolf.com World Rankings and No. 70 in the Golfweek/AmateurGolf.com U.S. Rankings.

Luke Gutschewski of Iowa State finished in solo second place at 12-under and five shots back of Moriyama. He carded rounds of 67-70-67. Matthew Pennington of Grand Canyon finished in solo third place at 11-under.
Aston Castillo of Witchita State, Krando Nishiba of Southern California, and Felix Schrott of CSU Northridge finished T4 at 10-under, and Aidan Lee of St. Mary's and Gage Messingham of Northern Colorado finished T7 at 9-under.
In the team competition, Grand Canyon finished 31-under to take down UNLV by two shots. UNLV finished in solo second place at 29-under.
Grand Canyon carded rounds of 272-282-279 to get to 31-under and also secure a wire-to-wire win, similar to Moriyama in the individual competition.
Iowa State finished in solo third place at 28-under, Southern California finished in solo fourth place at 26-under, and CSU Fullerton finished in solo fifth place at 21-under. Long Beach State finished in solo sixth place at 17-under, and St. Mary's and Kansas finished T7 at 16-under.
