Linger Longer Invitational: Alabama defends its title with ease

Even though Alabama standout Nick Dunlap has taken his talents to the PGA Tour, Jonathan Griz, and the Alabama Crimson Tide still defended its title easily at the 2024 Linger Longer Invitational at Reynolds Lake Oconee, the Great Waters Course, in Eatonton, Ga.

The Crimson Tide won the 2023 Linger Longer Invitational, led by an individual title win from Dunlap.

Alabama finished 40-under to win the title by 11 shots over Virginia, who finished in solo second place at 29-under. The Crimson Tide shot rounds of 267-272-285 to pull away from the field. The Crimson Tide's first-round score of 21-under 267 was the only team round to break 270

Georgia finished in solo third place at 26-under, and Georgia Tech finished in solo fourth place at 18-under. UNCG finished in solo fifth place at 13-under to round out the top five. 

Jonathan Griz of Alabama used a first-round 10-under 62 to propel him to the individual win. Griz shot rounds of 62-67-74 to finish 13-under and beat the field by three shots. 

Griz shot a final round 2-over 74, but the seven-shot lead he entered the day with was more than enough to help him keep the lead throughout and secure the wire-to-wire win. 

The Crimson Tide earned the Gold, Silver, and Bronze medals, with J.P. Cave finishing in solo second place at 10-under and Canon Claycomb finishing in solo third place at 9-under. 

Bryan Lee of Virginia and Buck Brumlow of Georgia finished T4 at 8-under. 2023 Walker Cupper Ben James of Virginia, Camden Smith of Georgia, Connor Creasy of Georgia, and Jonathan Nielsen of Clemson finished T6 at 7-under.

Christo Lamprecht of Georgia Tech, who is currently ranked No. 5 in the Golfweek/AmateurGolf.com World Rankings, finished T16 at 4-under. His final round 5-under 67 saw him jump 25 spots up the leaderboard.
