Hawaii State Amateur: Peter Jung, Shion Suzuki lead after round one

Peter Jung of Utah and Shion Suzuki of Hawaii Pacific lead the Hawaii State Amateur Stroke Play Championship at Leilehua Golf Course in Schofield Barracks, Hi.
Jung, a native of Honolulu, Hi., and Washington State transfer, recorded six birdies and one bogey, while Suzuki recorded seven birdies and two bogeys.
Jung and Suzuki both teed off on No. 10 and went bogey-free on their first nine holes.
Kolbe Irei, Colby Gunderson, and Remington Hirano are T3 at 3-under, while Joshua Hiyashida, Tyler Ogawa, and Spencer Shishido are T6 at 2-under.
In the Mid-Amateur Division, Spencer Shishido leads by one shot over Nikola Uskokovic. Shishido is 2-under and Uskokovic is 1-under. The two are the only ones under par in the division. Shawn Sakoda and Matthew Ma are T3 at even par.
In the Women's Division, Kate Nakaoka holds a three-shot lead after an opening round 4-under 68. Alexa Takai is in solo second place at 1-under, and Jasmine Wong is in solo third place at even par.
The men's Overall Champion receives an exemption into the 124th U.S. Amateur Championship. Niall Shiels Donegan is the defending 2022 and 2023 Hawaii State Amateur champion but is not in the field this year.
