Lars Van Der Vight won the 2024 Spanish International Amateur Championship at Alcanada Golf Club in Mallorca, Spain. Van Der Vight shot 6-under after the championship was changed to a 72-hole stroke play format due to inclement weather
Normally, the championship is a 36-hole stroke play qualifying event from which 32 players advance to match play, and the golfers play out the brackets from there. However, it was changed to a fully stroke play event due to rain.
Van Der Vight finished ahead of Luis Masaveu Roncal by three shots, with Masaveu finishing at 3-under and in solo second place.
Van Der Vight shot rounds of 68-69-71-74 to finish at 6-under, while Masaveu shot rounds of 66-71-71-77 to finish at 3-under.
Van Der Vight and Masaveu have put together impressive resumes in 2024 thus far. In addition to this finish, Masaveu won the 2024 Portuguese International Amateur. Van Der Vight finished T2 at the South African Stroke Play, made the final 16 at the South African Amateur Championship, and finished in solo eighth place at the GolfRSA International Amateur.
Both golfers have flown up the world rankings with their recent play, as Masaveu is currently ranked No. 40 and Van Der Vight is ranked No. 84 in the Golfweek/AmateurGolf.com World Rankings.
Van Der Vight also won the 2022 Dutch Amateur.
Michele Ferrero finished in solo third place at even par, Sean Keeling finished in solo fourth place at 1-over, and Harley Smith finished in solo fifth place at 2-over to round out the top five.
