A historic win for Vanderbilt at the Cabo Collegiate in MexicoTHE COURSE
Designed by 15-time PGA Tour winner and 1992 Masters champion Fred Couples, Twin Dolphin Club’s 18-hole course is built into the mountainous Baja desert, combining rippling fairways and fast greens with dramatic arroyos, natural bunkers, and phenomenal views of the Sea of Cortez.
LAST YEAR
In the 2023 Cabo Collegiate, Vanderbilt pulled off an impressive sweep, winning the team title and Wells Williams winning the individual title. Williams finished five shots better than the field at 10-under.
“That’s probably the best we’ve played as a group all year,” said Vanderbilt coach Scott Limbaugh after the tournament. “Just to see Wells step up like that. It’s really cool. Six weeks ago, he never played for us, ever, and here he is, winning the biggest tournament of the spring.”
“I came in hitting the ball pretty well,” Williams said after the tournament. “I had a ‘whatever happens, happens’ mentality. I tried not to play in fear this week.”
Brett Schell of Ole Miss shot a third-round course record 7-under 64 and finished T2 at 5-under with Chase Sienkiewicz of Arizona and Frederik Kjettrup of Florida State. Preston Summerhays of Arizona State and Matthew Riedel of Vanderbilt rounded out the top five, finishing T5 at 4-under.
