Southern Highlands Collegiate: Oklahoma takes over team lead with 18 holes remaining

After a difficult second round that saw most teams fall to over par for the tournament, Oklahoma is the only team under par, and they lead at the 2024 Southern Highlands Collegiate at Southern Highlands Golf Club in Las Vegas, Nev.
The Sooners are 1-under total, leading the tournament by three shots over North Carolina, who is in solo second place at 2-over. Oklahoma moved up six spots in the second round after finishing the first round T7. The Sooner's 3-over 291 was the best team round by four shots.
North Carolina is in solo second place at 2-over, Florida and Texas are T3 at 3-over, and San Diego State is in solo fifth place at 4-over.
The Gators led after the first round after a round of 10-under 278 but struggled in the second round, shooting 13-over 301 to fall to T3 and four shots back of Oklahoma.
Illinois and Auburn are T6 at 6-over, Arizona State is in solo eighth place at 7-over, and Missouri and Texas A&M are T9 at 8-over.
First-round leader Jack Lundin of Missouri still leads through 36 holes in the individual competition. Lundin is 8-under and leads Ian Gilligan of Florida by two shots. Gilligan is in solo second place at 6-under.
Lundin shot a first-round 6-under 66 with eight birdies and one double bogey and shot a second-round 2-under 70 to get to 8-under. He recorded five birdies, a bogey, and another double bogey.
Nathan Petronzio of Texas, Drew Goodman of Oklahoma, and Jackson Koivun of Auburn are T3 at 5-under. Petronzio shot a second-round 3-under 69 to propel 23 spots up the leaderboard to T3. Goodman and Koivun shot a second-round 2-under 70 to jump 14 spots up the leaderboard.
Maxwell Ford of North Carolina, Jose Luis Ballester of Arizona State, Tyler Kowack of San Diego State, and Gustav Frimodt of TCU are T6 at 3-under.
Ford is one of the highest-ranked players in the field, currently ranked No. 16 in the Golfweek/AmateurGolf.com U.S. Rankings.
