Watersound Invitational: Defending champion Vanderbilt continues to impress

Two of the top five amateurs in the world, according to the Golfweek/AmateurGolf.com World Rankings, are leading the field at the 2024 Watersound Invitational at Sharks Tooth Golf Club in Panama City Beach, Fla.
Christo Lamprecht of Georgia Tech is leading the tournament at 8-under by two shots over Gordon Sargent of Vanderbilt, Jackson Van Paris of Vanderbilt, and Gray Albright of Florida State are all T2 at 6-under.
Lamprecht is ranked No. 5 in the Golfweek/AmateurGolf.com World Rankings, while Sargent is ranked No. 1, making for an intriguing final-round showdown. Lamprecht is the highest-ranked non-American and won the 2023 Silver Medal in July, which goes to the top amateur finisher at the Open Championship.

Sargent, Van Paris, and Albright are T2 and will look to chase down Lamprecht in the final round.
Thomas Higgins of Clemson, Kale Fontenot of Georgia Tech, and Preston Stout of Oklahoma State are T5 at 5-under. Seven golfers are T9 at 4-under on the crowded leaderboard.
Vanderbilt leads the team competition by seven shots. Clemson is in solo second place at 13-under, and Virginia is in solo third place at 12-under. Florida State is in solo fourth place at 9-under, and Georgia Tech is in solo fifth place at 8-under.
Vanderbilt has shot rounds of 278-278 to get to 20-under.
