FT. WORTH, Texas (Sept. 1, 2008)--John Bearrie, the reigning Texas North Regional champ who will be in the field at the U.S. Mid-Amateur next week got a good tune-up Labor Day when he closed out the final round of the Ft. Worth City Championship as the only golfer under par.
Bearrie went 68-69-72--209 to finish at 2-under-par, winning the tourney for the second time in three years.
First-round leader Will Woodring couldn't duplicate his scorching first-round 65, and finished in a tie for second with Michael Clark at 3-over 214.
In the collegiate flight, Travis Woolf of Texas Christian University sandwiched a 65 around a pair of 68's to finish at 10-under 201.
Tied for second at 202 was TCU teammate Johan de Beer and James Saycheck.
Mina Hardin won the women's flight by one stroke over Leslie Henry at 155, while Bret Whiteley took the first net flight by the same margin over Juan Herreros.
