Free State Open: Louis Moolman wins in a playoff

Louis Moolman of Pretoria Country Club shot 13-under and defeated Altin van der Merwe in a playoff against Altin van der Merwe, securing the title at the Free State Alec Levin Open held at Maccauvlei Golf Club in Vereeniging, South Africa.
Moolman’s 13-under par score, following rounds of 70-67-71-67, was on par with the scores of Merwe. Merwe carded rounds of 68-68-71-68 to join Moolman in the playoff.
Altin van der Merwe was the AGC Mid-Amateur Player of the Year.
Related: THE 2023 AGC MID-AM PLAYER OF THE YEAR: ALTIN VAN DER MERWE Moolman entered the final round trailing Merwe, who maintained the 54-hole lead at 9-under par. Moolman's final-round score of 67, compared to Merwe's 68, resulted in a playoff.
In the tournament's last edition, Merwe also secured a runner-up position when Jonathan Broomhead claimed the title in 2023.
Moolman, a former professional on the European Tour, secured his last victory at the 2023 GNGU Mid-Amateur held at Centurion Country Club. On the other hand, Merwe, also an accomplished amateur, most recently competed in the All India Amateur Championship, where he achieved a notable third-place finish.
Jaden Deltel from Bryanston Country Club concluded the tournament in third place, shooting an impressive 12-under par with rounds of 68-70-70-68.
A total of 152 amateurs participated in the tournament, of whom 67 made the 36-hole cut.
