By Miami Beach Golf ClubMats Ege of Norway shot a bogey-free 7-under 64 to lead after the 2023 South Beach International Amateur opening round at the Miami Beach Golf Club and Normandy Shores Golf Course.
When you combine perfect weather with courses that have been softened by the massive storm that hit the East Coast a few days prior, you are giving the best amateur golfers in the world an opportunity to go low, and they did.
Ege, who plays for East Tennessee State, led the pack with a 7 under par 64 at the Miami Beach Golf Club. His spotless round featured 7 birdies and no bogies. Canadian Marco Trstenjak, who plays for Georgia Southwestern, matched Ege’s 64 with a 6 under round at Normandy Shores Golf Club to share the lead.
Low scores were abundant, with eight players finishing at 5 under par to tie for third place after the first round. 208 total golfers make up the field.
