Oliver Lewis-Perkins, a senior at Lee University, shot 11-under to win the Copperhead Championship at the Copperhead Course in Innisbrook, FL.
Perkins shot rounds of 67-69-66 to win his maiden collegiate title by a substantial margin of seven shots over Nico Lang, a graduate student at West Florida, who posted rounds of 68-70-71 and finished as the runner-up at 4-under 209.
Perkins entered the final round with a two-stroke advantage at 6-under par, while Lang closely trailed at 4-under par. Perkins sealed his victory in Florida with an impressive final round, including an eagle on the 607-yard par-5 No. 5 and three additional birdies.
In 2023, Perkins has played in 14 tournaments, including three in his home country of England, where he registered his previous best, a finish for third at the Kent Amateur Championship in June.
In the team competition, Lee University consisting of Noah Ross, Oliver Lewis-Perkins, Bennett McNabb, Trey Melvin, and George Cordall, shot 1-over 853 with rounds of 282-282-289 for a victory by two strokes over West Florida.
The team headed into the final round with a substantial four-shot lead over the host team from West Florida, holding a solid position at 4-under par. In a surprising twist, both teams managed identical rounds, posting scores of 1-over 289, finishing a mere two strokes apart. This slight difference proved decisive as Lee University clinched the title.
Oklahoma Christian shot 1-under 281, marking the only team to register an under-par score on the final day to finish third at 10-over 862, followed by Coker University at fourth at 12-over 864.
