On a day when only three teams shot under par, Southern California continued its solid play and shot a final round 4-under to finish 9-under total and seven shots clear of the runner-ups win the 2023 Stanford Intercollegiate at Stanford University Golf Club in Palo Alto, Calif.
In a tournament packed with ranked teams, including the No. 1 ranked Stanford Cardinal, the Trojans were the most consistent. This is USC's second team title this year, as it won the Leadership and Golf Invitational to start the season.
USC was one of two teams to finish under par for the tournament, as the last day brought several casualties on the course. However, that did not stop the Trojans as they finished the final day four-under-par.
Northwestern finished 2-under and was the only other team to shoot under par to secure solo second place. Stanford and California finished T3 at 2-over.
USC came into the final round tied with Virginia for the lead but it was a long day for the Cavaliers, as they shot 11-over to fall to 6-over and finish T5 with UCLA. UCLA also started the day just one shot back of the leaders, but a 10-over final round dropped them back to T5.
In the individual competition,
Catherine Park of USC finished 7-under to win by one shot over
Amanda Sambach of Virginia, who finished in solo second place at 6-under.
Park was the tournament's highlight, as she finally got over the hump to win her first tournament. Coming into this event, Park finished in second or in a tie for second three times, including finishing tied for second at the Leadership and Golf Invitational.
Ching Tzu-Chen of Oregon and
Kelly Xu of Stanford finished T3 at 5-under.
Hailey Borja of Michigan and
Lauryn Nguyen of Northwestern finished T5 at 4-under.
