Ben Hogan Collegiate: Cole Sherwood powers Vanderbilt past North Carolina

Cole Sherwood only needed two holes to earn the sweep for Vanderbilt at the Ben Hogan Collegiate Invitational at Shady Oaks Country Club in Fort Worth, Tex.
Sherwood birdied the final hole to give Vanderbilt a one-shot win over North Carolina and force a playoff against
Christo Lamprecht of Georgia Tech.
Then, on the first playoff hole (No. 18), Sherwood made another birdie to win the individual competition.
Vanderbilt finished at 16-under, holding off a valiant final-round effort from North Carolina, who finished 15-under and shot 10-under in the final round.
Oklahoma came into the final round with a five-shot lead over Arizona State, but a final round 14-over sent them into solo fifth place.
Arizona State finished in solo third place at 13-under, and Oregon finished in solo fourth place at 12-under. Oregon shot a 9-under final round.
In the individual competition, Sherwood and Lamprecht shot 7-under to force the playoff. Sherwood won on the first hole.
Nate Stember of Oregon and
Gordon Sargent of Vanderbilt finished T3, and one shot back of the playoff at 6-under.
David Ford of North Carolina and
Drew Goodman of Oklahoma State finished T5 at 5-under.
Five 2023 United States Walker Cup participants played in this tournament (Sargent, David Ford,
Preston Summerhays,
Dylan Menante, and
Austin Greaser).
