Maui Jim Intercollegiate: Defending champions Auburn off to hot start in round one

The Auburn Men's Golf team seems to really like Mirabel Golf Club.
With one round completed at the 2023 Maui Jim Intercollegiate at Mirabel Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz., the 2022 team champions Auburn Tigers hold a three-shot lead.
Auburn shot a team score of 24-under through the first 18 holes.
San Diego State and SMU were the only other two schools to keep pace with the Tigers, as San Diego State is in second place at 21-under and SMU is in third place at 18-under.
Fresno State is in fourth place at 11-under, Oregon is in fifth place at 10-under, and Ohio State is in sixth place at 9-under.
In the individual competition, Justin Hastings of San Diego State shot an impressive 9-under 62 to take the solo lead into the second round.
Hastings shot a bogey-free round and made nine birdies. He shot 31-31 on his two nines.
Ryan Eshleman of Auburn is in solo second place at 8-under 63, and Daniel Medellin of Georgia State is in solo third place at 7-under 64.
Six golfers are tied for fourth place at 6-under.
The individual stroke play winner earns an exemption into a 2024-2025 Korn Ferry Tour season event.
