Huddleston Cup at Maridoe: Harvey and Hanzel win titles in inaugural event
Doug Hanzel (left) and Scott Harvey won titles at Maridoe
The inaugural Huddleston Cup at Maridoe Golf Club in Carrollton, TX featured a premiere field of 21 Mid-Amateurs and 21 Senior-Amateurs. The tournament was contested June 1-3 over 54-holes of stroke play with perfect weather conditions.
Scott Harvey (67-73-68) paced the field in the Mid-Amateur Division, leading wire-to-wire. 2022 Crump Cup champion Stephen Behr made things interesting, recovering from a first-round 77 with scores of 66-68 to finish with a 211 total.
Behr got within a single shot with two holes to play, but after Harvey birdied No. 17, his 208 total gave him a 3-shot victory and the inaugural Mid-Amateur title.
Doug Hanzel (70-76-71) and Bob Royak (72-74-71) tied at 217 in the Senior division.
On the first extra hole, Hanzel two-putted from the front of the 18th green, as Royak missed a 12-foot putt to extend the playoff.
