Ludvig Aberg, the No. 1-ranked amateur in the world by Golfweek/AmateurGolf.com, finds himself tied for seventh at DP World Tour’s Hero Dubai Desert Classic when play was suspended due to darkness during the second round on Friday.

Aberg, who is playing on a sponsor's exemption as the No. 1 player in the PGA TOUR University Velocity Global Ranking, shared the first-round lead after the Texas Tech senior carded a 7-under 65 in the first round, which spanned two days due to inclement weather. The Swede played 25 holes on Friday, and he is 2-over through the first seven holes of his second round.

Last year's recipient of the Ben Hogan Award, Aberg won twice during his junior year at Texas Tech, including the Big 12 Championship individual title. He also captured the 2021 Jones Cup at the Ocean Forest Club in Sea Island, Ga.

Michael Thorbjornsen, a junior at Stanford who won the 2021 Western Amateur, is also competing in Dubai on a sponsor's exemption and is tied for 40th at 2-under par.
