Todd Hendley runs away with Jack Hesler Senior title
Todd Hendley
Todd Hendley's game travels, after all.
While much of his success as a senior golfer has come in the Carolinas, Hendley ventured to the Midwest and came away with a six-shot victory in the Society of Seniors Jack Hesler Tournament held at the Belterra Casino Resort in Florence, Ind.
Hendley shot rounds of 68-68-72 for a 54-hole total of 5-under 208, which was good for a six-shot victory over
Steven Maddalena.
John Barry and
Larry Nunez finished a distant third at 4-over 217.
It was
Ken Kinkopf who set the early pace on Tuesday when he opened with a 4-under 67 in round one, but the former Hesler champion fell out of contention after a second-round 79.
A second consecutive 68 gave Hendley a comfortable five-shot lead over Maddalena, who stumbled to a 73 on Wednesday. A final round 72 was good for an easy six-shot win.
Hendley, who was coming off an eighth-place finish at the National Senior Hall of Fame tournament in June, returned to the winner's circle for the first time since capturing his second North & South Senior Amateur last year at Pinehurst.
A multi-time winner of the Carolinas Seniors along with the Chanticleer Invitational, Hendley's win in southern Indiana was his first senior victory outside of the Carolinas.
