Wake Forest took advantage of improved scoring conditions in Hilton Head, SC to move to the top of the leaderboard after two rounds of the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate.
The Demon Deacons recorded a 4-under 280 in the second round at Long Cove Golf Club to move three spots up the leaderboard into first place and at 3-over 571 at the 36-hole mark, will take a six-stroke lead over Arizona State into Wednesday's final round.
Freshman Carolina Lopez-Chacarra (69) and junior Lauren Walsh (68) led the Deacs second-round charge with under-par rounds. At 2-under 140, Lopez-Chacarra is tied for second-place with Texas' Bohyun Park while Walsh is tied for seventh at even-par 142.
A total of 12 golfers are with four strokes of the lead held by Arizona State freshman Calynne Rosholt, who sits at 3-under 139 following rounds of 70 and 69.
Rosholt caught fire in the middle of her round, picking up five birdies during an eight-hole stretch from holes 8-15.
"I was focused on one shot at a time and playing smart and staying relaxed on the course," Rosholt said after her round.
Wake Forest will try to nail down its third win of the season tomorrow and defend its Darius Rucker Intercollegiate title it won in 2020. The Demon Deacons will be paired with Arizona State and Baylor, while Rosholt and Chacarra going head-to-head.
GOLF Channel will provide live final round coverage beginning at 2:30 p.m. ET.
