Kuangyu ‘Tony’ Chen shot a final round 70 to win the Silverado Amateur by four shots Wednesday on the North Course at Silverado Resort in Napa, Calif.
Chen finished at 6-under 210 for the 54-hole event after carding rounds of 71-69-70. Chen was in a tight battle with San Jose’s Berk Harvey, Alejandro Alonso, and James Song before the Cal golfer made three straight birdies on holes 12-14 to seize control of the tournament. He finished with four straight pars to secure the title.
The win marks the third consecutive win for Cal golfers at Silverado in the Troon Saguaro Amateur Series. Finigan Tilly won the 2020 Grapevine Amateur and Costas Panay captured last year’s Silverado Amateur. Chen’s teammate, James Song (Rancho Santa Fe, CA), was one of the players who finished in a tie for second.
“It felt great to be winning again, played well in the summer, glad it can translate to a win finally,” said Chen.
