In Georgia, Taylor Smith leads inaugural Berkeley Cup
Taylor Smith
The inaugural edition of The Berkeley Cup completed the second round today, with Mid-Am and Senior players from seven states vying to be the first names on the trophy. Berkeley Hills Country Club in Duluth, GA is hosting the event and both divisions are playing from the same tees, as the overall champion can come from either category.
Taylor Smith (Atlanta, GA), the 2018 Georgia Mid-Am champion, vaulted into first place with a stellar 7 under 65, which included a front nine 30. Keith Guest (Athens, GA) who held the first round lead is tied for second place after a 1 under 71. Chris Waters (Atlanta, GA) shot consecutive 69s to match Guest at -6 for the tournament. Still within range for the overall title are Philip Lee (Nashville, TN) and Danny Keddie (Atlanta, GA) at -2.
The Senior Division has co-leaders with USGA Senior Am champion Bob Royak (Alpharetta, GA) and Tim Slough (Peachtree City, GA) tied at even par. It is a tight race going into Sunday with Billy Mitchell (Atlanta, GA) and Jeff Belk (Marietta, GA), just one behind at +1, and Frank Remmes at +2.
