Mississippi State’s Austin Vukovits has taken a two-shot lead into the final round of the 2020 Chattanooga Choo Choo Invitational.
Beginning Tuesday’s round three shots back of round one leader Mason Greenburg (Vanderbilt), the rising junior took care of business during the second round. Off to a slow start, Vukovits was one-over through five. Carding his first birdie on the par-5 sixth, Vukovits kicked off a nine-hole stretch in which he was 7 under par.
As Greenburg treaded water with an even-par 71, Vukovits found his name at the top of the leaderboard as Tuesday’s round came to a close.
Holding a two-shot lead, Vukovits leads the way into Wednesday’s final round as he’ll be paired with Lipscomb’s Jack Morris and University of Tennessee's Chip Thomas, who account for two of four competitors at 6-under.
Round one leader Mason Greenburg and Hunter Logan also sit at 6-under. Florida State’s Connor Futrell and Chattanooga’s Braedon Wear lurk just three shots back of Vukovits.
12 golfers are four to seven shots off the lead, making for an interesting final round on Wednesday.
The defending champion Jake Maples (Georgia Southern) struggled to a 75 on Tuesday, and currently sits T32 at 2 over par.
