Craig Hurlbert (Magnolia, Texas) is the first senior champion of 2020, topping Ken Kinkopf (Jupiter, Fla.) in a playoff to win the Old Corkscrew Senior in Estero, Fla.
At times it must have felt like more of a survival test than a tournament, as a cold front brought rain and wind that kept scores high. The Jack Nicklaus-designed Old Corkscrew Golf Club is always a tough test, but this year some very good players shot some very high scores.
How hard was the scoring? Hurlbert was the only player in the field to break 80 all three rounds(!). His 78 in round one and 76 in the final round we tied for the low rounds of the day. Kinkopf's 73 in round two was the best round of the tournament. Each finished the tournament at 14-over 230.
William Shock (Pasadena, Texas) was third, five shots back. Past champion Bob Kearney (Houston, Texas) was among five players tied for fourth.
Daniel Houlihan (Rockford, Ill.) won the Super Senior division by three shots over Tim Vigotsky (Centrevill, Va.). John Blank (Frostburg, Md.) ran away with the Legends division by nine shots, and Charles Busbee won a playoff over George Owens to win the Super Legends division.
