Fredrick closes with 66 to claim Missouri Senior Amateur
Lake Forest GC
Wayne Fredrick claimed the Missouri Senior Amateur title on Thursday thanks to a closing 66 at Lake Forest Country Club in Lake St. Louis, Mo. Fredrick, who hails from Springfield, Mo., lit up the back nine with six birdies – including four consecutive – to easily win the title.
Fredrick had opened with a 1-under 71 that left him four shots behind leader Brian Haskell of St. Joseph, Mo. But on Thursday, Fredrick came out of the gate with authority. He made one birdie on No. 3 on the front side, then rattled off a back-nine 31 to climb to the top of the leaderboard.
By the end of the day, Haskell, who had a closing 73, was three shots back at 4 under. Robert Goodwin had a final-round 72 and at 1 under, was third. He was the only other player to finish the tournament under par.
In the super senior division, Alan Schuermann had rounds of 70-76 for a 2-over total that left him three shots ahead of Robert Nelson in second.
