Trent Wilcox is the Minnesota Senior Amateur champion after rounds of 70-73-73 at Brackett’s Crossing Country Club in Lakeville, Minn. Wilcox had 10 birdies, including four in the final round as he held off the 2017 champion Dave Haslerud.
Wilcox finished the week at even par, two ahead of Haslerud. Tom Whaley was another four shots back in fourth, followed by Jerry Rose in solo fourth at 7 over.
In the master division, after doing most of the work with an opening 71 at Brackett’s Crossing, Leif Carlson ran away with the title. A follow-up 77 finished off an eight-shot victory for Carlson in the state senior championship.
Carlson had three birdies in his opening round offset by two bogeys. He opened his second round with a birdie on the first hole and despite a double bogey on No. 17, was still able to easily pull off the victory.
RJ Smiley finished 36 holes at 2-under to win the grand master division by 12 shots. He was the only player to finish the tournament under par.
