Acuff finishes off San Antonio Mid-Amateur win with closing 65
Zak Acuff
Former Tennessee Wesleyan player Zak Acuff won the San Antonio Mid-Amateur on Sunday, and never left a doubt in his romp to victory. Acuff opened with 2-under 69 at Brackenridge Park Golf Course, then followed with a 6-under 65. He won by six shots, despite a closing bogey in the second round.
Acuff had only one hiccup on the weekend: A double-bogey at the par-5 12th in the opening round. In Round 2, he had four front-nine birdies to turn with a 4-under 32, then made his three back-nine bogeys in a streak from Nos. 11-13.
Jacob Davis was runner-up at 2 under after rounds of 72-68. AJ Ferries and Josh Logan tied for third another shot back.
In the senior division, Bobby Baugh got it to 9 under with rounds of 64-74-66. He finished the event three shots ahead of runner-up Pat Youngs.
Bobby Haney edged Mike Arnold and Bub Hullender by two shots in the super senior division.
Johany Rivera, who formerly played for St. Edward’s University, won the women’s division by a single shot over Maggie Cowert. Rivera had rounds of 72-67 for a 3-under total.
