Japan’s Ren Yonezawa came out on top at the South Australian Amateur Classic in Royal Adelaide. After trailing by a shot entering the final day, Yonezwa spent the first half of the day playing catch up and the he wasn’t the only one.
Yonezwa’s final-round 68 at Royal Adelaide was enough to get him to 15 under, good for a one-shot lead. But behind him. Australian Jediah Morgan was putting together a final-round 66, a score that would carry him five shots up the leaderboard into second at 14 under.
“Royal Adelaide is a fantastic golf course,” Yonezawa told Golf Australia. “I have been in Adelaide for two weeks which is a great opportunity. This week has tested my skills and the greens had great speed.”
The victory is Yonezawa’s first international win after a 12th place finish in Adelaide last year.
Three players tied for third at 13 under, including Billy Cawthorne, who plays out or Royal Adelaide. Another Japanese player, Yuta Sugiura, was also on that number along with Australian Jack Thompson.
Japan’s Keita Nakajima, who won the 2018 Australian Amateur, tied for sixth.
