Two rounds of match play were contested Monday at the Argentine Amateur at Golf Club Argentino in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Not surprisingly, many of the players who did well in stroke play advanced into the quarterfinals, to be contested on Tuesday.
At the top of the bracket, defending champion Federico Shin – who took the top seed – won two matches and will meet Vicente Marzilio in the quarterfinals. Marzilio had to go 21 holes in his Round-of-16 match again Horacio Carbonetti.
Guillermo Estivill, who was one of three players to finish 36 holes of stroke play at 8 under, won the Kenneth Gordon Davis Cup in a tiebreaker. While Estivill won his first-round match against Salvador Dell Acqua, 5 and 3, he fell to Matias Yenidjeian Aram in the afternoon.
Yenidjeian Aram will now meet Mateo Fernandez de Oliveira, who has had strong showings already this year at the South American Amateur and the Latin America Amateur.
Andres Schonbaum and Miguel Sancholuz will meet in the third quarterfinal match and Gonzalo Oliva Pinto will face Ernesto Correa Leandro in the final match-up.
