CARROLLTON, Texas (Oct. 23, 2018) – Oklahoma State pulled off a runaway Tuesday at the Royal Oaks Intercollegiate in what was the team’s second tournament title in four starts this season. After three rounds at Maridoe Golf Club, Oklahoma State was 13 under and the next-closest team was 19 over.
Oklahoma State had its lowest round at the par-70 Maridoe in a weather-split second round. The field only completed roughly 15 holes of the second round on Monday afternoon, and came back to the course early Tuesday to finish it. Oklahoma State went 9 under despite the interruption, then rolled on into the final round.
OSU's 32-shot margin of victory was its largest since recording a 32-shot triumph last spring at the Lamkin Grips San Diego Classic.
OSU previously won the event in 2012, 2013 and 2014. The win was the second in four starts for the Cowboys this fall, who won the Olympia Fields/Fighting Illini Invitational by 18 strokes last month.
Individually, there was a three-way tie for medalist honors, and two Cowboys were in the mix. Junior Viktor Hovland, the U.S. Amateur champion, and sophomore Matthew Wolff joined Pepperdine's Clay Feagler at 4-under 206. Wolff looked in good position to get his third solo victory of the fall after a second-round 65 but backed up to a final-round 73 to let the other two players back in the door.
The Cowboys will finish the fall season at next week’s East Lake Cup, a match-play event into which they gained entry by winning last year’s national championship.
North Carolina State finished second at 859 at the Royal Oaks event and SMU was third at 863.
