North Florida takes slim lead on Day 1 of Florida Cup

PALM COAST, Fla. (Oct. 18, 2018) – After the first day at the Florida Cup, the team from North Florida has a two-point lead over the team from the south end of the state. North Florida captured five points in the morning four-ball matches at Hammock Dunes Golf Club to take an early 5.5-2.5 lead. In the afternoon, South Florida cut the North’s lead to two, winning the final four matches of the day.
The final Day One score stands at 9-7.
Two members of North Florida’s team went undefeated on Thursday, earning a total of four points for their team. The duo of
Don Whittemore and
David Anthony defeated
Jerry Rose and
Owen Joyner, 4 and 3, and
Bill Barnes and
Rokki Rogan, 1 up, while
Jimmy Jones and
Richard Kerper defeated Barnes and Rogan, 5 and 3, and Rose and Joyner, 2 up.
On the South Florida side, the pair of Kasey Denesevich and Scott Turner also won both matches, beating
Cameron Knight and
Joe Alfieri, 4 and 3, and
Miles McConnell and
Bob Campione, 4 and 3.
The North team will look to even the overall Florida Cup series at 6-6 in Friday’s singles matches, while the South team aims to win their fifth consecutive cup.
