NORMAN, Okla. (Sept. 29, 2018) – Alabama players have figured out how to keep the big numbers off the card, and it’s a major reason the Crimson Tide leads the Schooner Fall Classic after two rounds. Alabama started the day tied with Texas, but pulled 10 shots ahead after another round at Belmar Golf Club. They will take the lead into Sunday’s final round.
Alabama’s four counters had just two bogeys among them – and there was nothing higher. There was also an eagle and 22 birdies. Two of the four players were bogey-free on the day. When you look at it that way, the 22-under 262 is even more impressive. Alabama’s second-round score, 36-hole total (34 under) and score vs. par are all school records.
Texas is the next best team at 24 under. Oklahoma is third at 12 under. The Sooners, who are hosting this week, posted a second-round 17-under 267.
All four Alabama golfers shot in the 60s, though junior Jiwon Jeon and sophomore Angelica Moresco had career-low rounds of 64 and 65, respectively. Jeon leads the individual race at 12 under. She had 66 on Friday. Teammate Lauren Stephenson is one shot behind her at 11 under.
Should Alabama pull off the victory on Sunday, it would be their second consecutive win this fall. The Crimson Tide already won the Annika Intercollegiate to start the season.
Texas A&M’s Amber Park is 9 under and in third while Texas’ Emilee Hoffman is 8 under and fourth. Oklahoma’s Libby Winans also had a 64 on Saturday. She is part of a four-way tie for seventh.
