OAK RIDGE, Tenn. (Sept, 14, 2018) –
Steve Golliher defeated a Tennessee golf legend Friday at the Tennessee Senior Amateur. Golliher, who has had at least a share of the lead through each of three rounds this week at Oak Ridge CC, held off nine-time Tennessee Player of the Year
Tim Jackson to win by four shots.
Golliher fired three rounds in the 60s this week (69-66-68) and was 13 under for 54 holes. Jackson, meanwhile, opened with back-to-back rounds of 71. His final-round 65 was bogey-free. It included five birdies and an eagle.
For his part, Golliher was also bogey free on Friday. It helped him set a new tournament record in this event.
When Golliher finished his round, several notable competitors were waiting to congratulate him -- notably, his brother Jeff, Jackson, and defending champion Danny Green.
“Those guys know, Danny and Tim and Jeff have won a lot,” Golliher said. “That was really special, probably as special as winning to be honest with you.”
Behind Jackson, Mike Albonetti was third at 7-under 209. Kenny Wilson was solo four at 5 under and Green rounded out the top 5 with a 4-under total.
