PARAMUS, N.J. (Aug. 13, 2018) – The Senior Arcola Cup came down to a scorecard playoff. After 18 holes at Arcola Country Club, two players were tied for the lead with scores of 3-over 75 on a tough course with fast greens, thick rough and high temperatures.
Stu Goldstein and Ron Vanelli were at the top of the leaderboard after regulation, but it was Vanelli who prevailed in the scorecard playoff. Vanelli won the Metropolitan Senior Masters in 2015 – fittingly, in a playoff.
For his part, Goldstein felt he played steady and could rely on his putter. He made a crucial 5-footer for par on 17 and another par putt from 8 feet on No. 18 to give himself a shot at the title.
Behind Vanelli and Goldstein, three players tied for third with rounds of 76. That group included Jim Craffey, Dave Bordiuk, and David Greenlaw.
