SAN ANTONIO, Texas (Aug. 26, 2018) – Jamie Amoretti is the San Antonio Mid-Amateur champion after a jaw-dropping final-round 60. Amoretti’s 11-under effort in the final round at the Alamo City Golf Trail left him with a 10-shot victory.
Amoretti opened with 7-under 64, which gave him a one-shot lead after the first round. On Sunday, he started with two birdies and continued to go low from there. Remarkably, there were two bogeys in his 11-under 60 effort. There were also two eagles – at Nos. 9 and 13. His day ended with a back-nine 6-under 29.
Amoretti played his college golf at St. Mary’s University in San Antonio. He won the individual title at the NCAA Division II national championship in 2006.
At 18 under for the weekend, Amoretti was hard to keep up with. Jacob Davis finished with 8-under 63 to reach 8 under for the weekend and finish second. Danny Simmerman and James Grant tied for third at 6 under.
In the senior men’s division, Matt Griffin won by three shots. Griffin was 2 under for the tournament, and the only player with a total in the red. He finished three shots ahead of runners-up Bobby Baugh and Alan Hill.
Bob Hullender won the super senior men’s division with a 2-over 215 total that included a final-round 69.
In the women’s division, Camryn Carreon defended her title thanks in large part to a final-round 5-under 66. Carreon finished the tournament at 1-over 143, four shots ahead of runner-up Emilee Strausburg.
Shelly Harden won the senior women’s division with a 4-over 146 total.
