GOTHENBURG, Neb. (Aug. 26, 2018) - Travis Minzel came from behind to win a record-tying third title at the 20th Nebraska Mid-Amateur Championship at Wild Horse Golf Club. Minzel, of Lincoln, Neb., shot a final-round, 3-under 69 to win by two strokes.

Minzel got to 2-under 142 at Wild Horse, which was two shots better than Andy Sajevic of Omaha, Neb. Minzel also won in 2010 and 2011, and joins Omaha's Patrick Duffy with the most all-time wins in this event.

“They’re all great,” Minzel said of his three titles. “You don’t get a lot of opportunities to win in this game, so every time you’re in position it’s exciting and it’s fun to be in contention and control nerves, hit the shots that you need to hit. It’s always fun to prove it to yourself that you can do so.”

Minzel’s final-round 69 included three birdies in his final five holes to seal the deal. Sajevic, meanwhile, birdied Nos. 10 and 12, but recorded all pars after that. Sajevic is just a few days removed from qualifying for the U.S. Mid-Amateur at his home course, Fremont Country Club. It will be his second trip to the tournament in the past three years.

Three players tied for third at 2 over, including Lance Lawson, Jay Moore and John Sajevic. Defending champion Patrick Duffy of Omaha, Neb., tied for 21st at 10 over.
